Our Gyokuro YABUKITA is made with carefully selected, high quality tea leaves from, Japan.
In 1908, a man named Sugiyama Hikosaburo selected a few different tea plants from a tea field in Shizuoka City. The field grew alongside a bamboo grove, so he named the plants Yabukita and Yabuminami. “Yabu” is derived from the Japanese word for bamboo grove (takeyabu), “kita” meaning north, and “minami” meaning south. After some years of growing and testing the two, the Yabukita fared much better than
Yabuminami and eventually became one of the top 2 varieties of green tea in Japan.
Gyokuro, “jade dew” in Japanese, is Japan's finest quality green tea and is shade-grown for approximately three weeks before harvesting. The savoriness-Umami-and pure aroma of Gyokuro is the exquisite result of this special growing process. Gyokuro Yabukitya has a beautiful Jade infusion and a perfect balance of bitterness and “Umami” sweetness.
How to Prepare: Use 1 tsp of leaves for every 8-12oz of water and steep in 140-160°F warm water for 2-3 minutes.
How to Enjoy: Gyokuro is considered as the highest quality green tea in Japan. Perfect for special occasions.
